Merriment 17—Legend of the poinsettia

Hi everyone! Christmas is the season for the poinsettia.  Do you know the legend of this flower? To make the story short, two children in Mexico, who were extremely poor, wanted to bring a gift for baby Jesus. Of course they had no money, so they decided to pick weeds to create a soft bed for the holy child.  When the other children saw the gift of weeds, they were mercilessly teased and ridiculed.  Suddenly a miracle occurred and the weeds burst forth in scarlet . Everyone was amazed by the beautiful gift and it was known that the gift of love from the heart is the greatest gift of all.

We went poinsettia shopping… so many colors are available. Now, I’m not a glitter type girl…except for vintage tinsel…. but these pink glittered ones were showstoppers!

and of course, traditional red…

I’ve never heard that version of the story either. How sweet! And beautiful blooms! Wow – that looks like a greenhouse setting…Around here, greenhouses close down come August/September…you’re stuck with florists or the big box stores….. Hope you brought home a beauty…. Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
