Several years ago, we decided to pick up a very small local show. We trudged through the snow carrying our goods in and spent a good 3 hours setting up our booth. One look around and we regretted applying. Virtually everyone in the show had crocheted toilet paper covers, plastic canvas doodads, and potholders. I have to admit, we had our noses a bit up into the air. The show was slow, attendance was poor, but it was only a one day show…we could survive. Did we make a profit? Yes. Was it worth the hours of set up and boredom? No. We never did the show again. In fact, the show, which once was a VERY good one ended after another two years. But this time of year my thoughts often go back to that show…because in the midst of all those toilet paper covers was a girl with a small booth. She was just starting out and had the most wonderful snowmen. I bought one,and a friend of mine bought one. I’ve often regretted not buying more from her booth because I’ve never seen her since. I often wonder if she was discouraged enough to stop sewing…I hope not…..she was so talented….but from that show I try to remember how everyone needs a word of encouragement to keep going sometimes…even from a stranger. I treasure this big awesome snowman and use him every single year all winter long.
